Curious Kentish Town: an illustrated talk by Martin Plaut and Andrew Whitehead

  • Camden Local Studies and Archives Centre, Holborn Library 32 Theobalds Road London, WC1X 8PA UK (map)

Which Kentish Town rent strike inspired a Peggy Seeger song? Do you know about the African revolutionary who made his home near Tufnell Park? Have you seen the tiny First World War memorial plaque on a terrace off Highgate Road? And where in NW5 can you still come across an Anderson shelter? Speakers Martin Plaut and Andrew Whitehead will be telling you about a dragon-killing saint commemorated in a local church and the true story of Boris the Cat.

Martin and Andrew will take you on a virtual journey through some of the more curious spots in and around Kentish Town and the stories attached. Their book Curious Kentish Town - published by Five Leaves - has just been reprinted and will be available to buy on the evening.

Admission: Free to CHS members. Non-members welcome (£2 at the door).
